We have finally been given our first look at the highly anticipated Netflix series Resident Evil. The show is the first live action series for the ever popular video game franchise as the world of zombies and evil has endured a long run on cinema screens. Check out the bonkers new teaser below!
Official Synopsis: “Year 2036 – 14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.”

From the initial viewing of the teaser, I will admit that this latest incarnation of the game does look better then the latest film Resident Evil- Welcome to Raccoon City which was a letdown in my eyes. The trailer throws multiple visuals and insane footage at the viewer and it definitely looks to reinvent the franchise. I’ll have to watch it of course to know for sure.
Resident Evil stars Lance Reddick, Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gossatti, and Turlough Convery.
Netflix has issued a statement about the ambitious series stating that it “brings the best of the Resident Evil Universe DNA forward – bad ass heroines, insane creatures (some new/some familiar), a battle for survival, questions about what it means to be family; Umbrella Corporation’s greed and corruption; and of course, a deep mystery to unravel.”
We’ll see how Ella Balinska stacks up to Milla Jovovich when it comes to ass kicking heroines but she certainly looks promising. The image of her blood soaked and ready for battle bodes well but we’ll have to wait and see how die hard fans relate to this version which looks to mix it up. I personally welcome any and all changes as a breath of fresh air and it’s what the franchise needs.
Resident Evil will premiere on Netflix this summer on July 14!
