ABSOLUTE DOMINION: Netflix Announces the Cast for Director Lexi Alexander’s Upcoming Martial Arts Actioner

By: John M Jerva

With the success of the recent martial arts action film Fistful of Vengeance, Netflix is dipping its hand into the genre pool once again for a new fisticuffs filled thriller titled Absolute Dominion. The movie is being helmed by former world kickboxing champ turned filmmaker Lexi Alexander who is best known for directing the Ray Stevenson led Punisher: War Zone.

Deadline has brought the official word today that the cast has been set and it’s a massive one including Alex Winter (Bill & Ted Face the Music), Alok Vaid-Menon (Random Acts of Flyness), Andy Allo (Chicago Fire), Désiré Mia, Jennifer Jajeh (Transparent), Juliana Joel (American Gigolo), Julie Ann Emery (Better Call Saul), June Carryl (Y: The Last Man), Junes Zahdi (Counterpart), Laith Ashley (Pose), Mario D’Leon (Power), Nora Armani (The Blacklist: Redemption), Oluniké Adeliyi (The Expanse), Patton Oswalt (I Love My Dad), Reagan Gomez (Queen Sugar) and Shawn Mousavi (Echo 3).

Alexander also wrote the script for the film which hails from Netflix and Blumhouse television.

Per Deadline: In the martial arts pic currently in production, it’s 2085 A.D., and the world has been destroyed by religious warfare. Desperate to save humanity, global governing forces host a gripping, no-holds-barred, martial arts tournament. Last fighter standing wins Absolute Dominion for one faith.

I’m immediately intrigued by the futuristic, dystopian vibe and nothing says getting your faith in humanity back like hosting a brutal, winner take all, underground fighting tournament. To each their own I guess but it sounds intriguing and especially if the fight sequences and choreography are first rate.

Punisher: War Zone was certainly hit or miss with fans when it hit in 2009 but I’m a huge fan of it and it’s sincere efforts to capture the spirit of the comic books. Alexander proved that she knows how to film brutal and bloody action set pieces so I’m eagerly awaiting to see what she does with a pure martial arts themed project.

Absolute Dominion is currently in production so expect it to hit late this year or in 2023 so keep it locked and loaded for more details to drop as we are your destination for everything action in 2022 and beyond!
