The Predator franchise is about to go in a whole new direction and for fans who have been dissatisfied with the last installment, this might be the cure that ails ya or another excuse to complain. We will have to wait and see but 20th century Studios is bringing the franchise back to its savage roots with a prequel movie that will see the iconic trophy hunter going up against a new type of advisory.

Back in November of last year, word came down that the new film would be titled Prey which will be the first Predator movie to actually not have the word Predator in the title. The film was helmed in almost secret by 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg and it wsas a pretty impressive feat in this day and age of social media that no one had a clue that it was being made or what it was.

In speaking to the media, 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell has dropped some new details on the film which will see “Naru, a skilled female warrior who fiercely protects her tribe against a highly evolved alien predator.” During his comments, Asbell mentioned that the film will take place in the year 1719 which will change the whole game from anything we’ve seen before.

Asbell also mentioned on how streaming services will broaden the playing field and let studios do creative and risky things with known franchises.

In order to meet the volume that we are looking at — which is, by 2023, 10-plus movies just for streaming — it’s going to be a combination of originals in those genres (comedy, thriller, young adult, horror). And coolest of all for fans, we get to find bold takes on beloved Fox properties. You can take big creative swings — which you’ll see with Prey, which we’ll launch this summer. A Predator movie set in the Great Plains in 1719 by Dan Trachtenberg. That’s what this allows us to do,” stated Asbell.

It was also recently announced that a Hulu Alien movie was in the future cars as well so the future is looking bright for these franchises that might see new life on these platforms.

Prey stars Amber Midthunder (Roswell, New Mexico) as Naru and she is joined in the cast by Dane DiLiegro (American Horror Stories) and Dakota Beavers who is a member of the band WesternBoy. It was also stated in past articles that DiLegro, who is a former basketball player coming in at an impressive 6’9″ in stature will be playing the advanced Predator being that he has experience working in creature suits in the past.

First look footage is definitely one thing that I, and everyone else, is waiting for and the movie is expected to hit Hulu sometime this summer although there is no concrete release date.
