Ridley Scott Confirms Development of Live Action BLADE RUNNER & ALIEN Series

By: John M Jerva

Ridley Scott is a Hollywood legend and is responsible for giving us two of sci-fi’s most influential projects in Blade Runner and the Alien films. Live action series based on both properties have been teased for a while now but the iconic filmmaker has confirmed that both are in development and one of the pilot episodes has already been written.

Scott was a guest on BBC Radio 4’s Today where he confirmed the news and even stated that the pilot episode to Blade Runner has been already penned. He also mentioned that the show is behind marketed to contain around 10 episodes or hours in its initial season.

“We have already written the pilot for Blade Runner and the bible,” Scott stated in the interview. “So, we’re already presenting Blade Runner as a TV show, probably the first 10 hours.”

Alien is now being written for pilot,” the filmmaker added.

Scott didn’t offer up any juicy details about the project including where and when it would take place or what characters work he involved. The classic film starred Harrison Ford as futuristic cop Rick Deckard who is tasked with finding and eliminating a group of synthetic humans who are known as replicants. That film spawned a sequel 35 years later helmed by Dune’s Dennis Villeneuve who saw the return of Ford along with Ryan Gosling.

The Alien series was first announced was confirmed almost a year ago at the Disney’s Investors Day and has tapped Fargo and Legion creator Noah Hawley to develop along with Ridley Scott for FX Networks.

The Alien series sounds really ambitious as it will be the first entry to take place on Earth that will blend the horror elements from the first film with the non-stop action of the second.

Once again, there aren’t any other real details about that series either so genre fans are in a holding pattern as well.
