It’s been a long while since it was first announced that Bruised, the Halle Berry starring MMA drama would be in the making and after three long years, Berry who also helmed, announced on Instagram that the movie will finally see the light of day in November when it releases on Netflix.
Bruised follows Berry as Jackie Justice who is a mixed martial arts fighter who leaves the sport in disgrace. Down on her luck and simmering with rage and regret years after the fight, she’s coaxed into a brutal underground fight by her manager and boyfriend Desi and grabs the attention of a fight league promoter who promises Jackie a life back in the Octagon. But the road to redemption becomes unexpectedly personal when Manny – the son she gave up as an infant – shows up at her doorstep. A triumphant story of a fighter who reclaims her power, in and out of the ring, when everyone has counted her out.
The road for Bruises has definitely been long and winding with cast and crew changes in the mix but it bodes well that the film is locked and ready for release.
Berry was injured while doing the film, breaking two ribs in the process so she really went all out to deliver her first feature in the director’s chair.
“I didn’t want to stop because I had prepared for so long,” Berry stated in an interview. “We had rehearsed; we were ready. So my mind, my director’s mind, was just — keep going. And I compartmentalized that, and I just kept going: ‘I’m not going to stop. I’ve come too far. I’m going to act as if this isn’t hurting. I’m going to will myself through it.’ And so we did.”
Bruised has had a rocky course of travel as Blake Lively was once attached to do the film but eventually dropped out paving the way for Berry to not only star but direct as well.
Lock and load and get ready for the first trailer coming soon as Bruised hits hard on Netflix starting on November 24th!!!!
