SNAKE-EYES: GI JOE ORIGINS Moves Up to a July Release!

By: John M Jerva

This is very welcoming news as Paramount Pictures has shuffled the release date once more for the standalone GI Joe film titled Snake-Eyes: GI Joe Origins. Before you all sigh as I did before I read it, just know that it’s for the better as the movie will now hit this summer instead of the planned October date!

The news came via social media as the Tweet was sent out today which you can view below with a huge grin on your face!

The Tweet, which came via the official GI Joe Twitter page is short and sweet and only shows of the logo but the next words are very welcoming as it states “Only in theaters July 23rd.”

The film which will introduce Snake through an origin story was originally supposed to hit last October but was delayed a year due to the pandemic. Now we shave nearly three months off of the sentence as it now unleashes this summer.

The all-star cast includes Henry Golding as the titular hero as well as Andrew Koji who is playing Storm Shadow as well as Iko Uwais as The Hard Master. Othercast members include Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Scarlett, Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist) as Baroness, Haruka Abe as Akiko, Takehiro Hira as Kenta and Steven Allerick (The Expanse) as Snake-Eyes’ father.

What’s most exciting is that Golding himself has seen the movie and has stated that will deliver the goods when fans finally see it.

“I think the heart of the story really is who Snake is and his journey as a person, really. Understanding his motivations. Compared to other hero-centric blockbusters we’ve seen, I can’t give away too much, but it really focuses on the one person instead of having 20 people on screen and understanding background. We start from the beginning. And, hopefully, this launches an amazing franchise.”

It’s no secret that Snake-Eyes is one of the movies I’m most eager to see as the character has been a favorite of mine since childhood. Snake-Eyes is said to be a prequel to the orginal duo of films and aims to be a soft reboot of the franchise which has been successful money wise but has taken hits from critics and fans a like.

I have been very vocal about being a fan of GI JOE as well as Snake ever since I was a kid and was excited to hear that he would be getting his own movie. As much as I liked the other two flms, I always would think of what it would be like to see a stand alone movie about the legendary ninja commando and now it’s a reality. With the talent involved, I’m hoping for off the reservation fight sequences and from Golding’s reaction to the cut, i think I’m going to like what I eventually see.

This also means that we will get a trailer sooner rather than later with the pushed up launch date so be on the lookout for that hopefully in the coming weeks!

Keep it locked and loaded right here for as we are your destination for everything action!
