Wesley Snipes Developing a New Action Project that He’s Calling a “BLADE-KILLER!”

By: John M Jerva

A few years back, all before pandemics and social distancing, it was announced by Kevin Feige and Marvel at SDCC that they were developing an all new Blade project that would see Mahershala Ali taking over the role of The Daywalker from Wesley Snipes who immortalized the comic book character in three films. With the announcement, many speculated that Snipes would have a little part in the reboot and the actor even mentioned that he would be down with passing the torch.

Those rumors have long been squashed and while Snipes harbors no ill will to Marvel and the new take on his character, Snipes has since mentioned that he’s developing an all new action project to which he affectionately has dubbed the “the Blade-Killer.” It’s a supernatural action film that he says will outdo anything that Marvel has planned with their PG-13 take on Blade.

“I don’t have any involvement, but I support the young artists and I support Marvel in their business decisions,” Snipes said in an article with Uproxx. “It’s a beautiful thing. [Mahershala Ali has] got a heck of a job on his hands.”

Snipes went on to say that when they did Blade, they were essentially white belts with the action filmmaking and that now they are true black belts and his new action movie “is going to smoke all the ‘Blade’ stuff.”

While this action project is a top secret thing at the moment, Snipes, as Snipes does, hyped it up to the best of his ability and action fans according to him better look out because it’s going to be off the chains.

“It’s what we call our ‘Blade’-killer, our ‘Blade’ on steroids,” Snipes said. “And we set our character in the world of shape-shifters and a little bit of time travel. But the action is going to be…Well, we did white belt action in ‘Blade.’ Now we’re going to do black belt action.”

Snipes went on to elaborate that what he did with Blade was truly special and what they had to work with at the time was great and Marvel has more tools under them so of course they are going to deliver but Snipes is definitely looking to outdo them all.

“It’s wonderful what we did [on ‘Blade’], but, brother, we’re so much better than we were then. So much better now than we were then,” Snipes continued. “Yes, indeed. And we’ve got more tools. Some of the things that were innovated in the ‘Blade’ franchise in the first film are now standard in the Marvel universe and all of these other action movies. And the technology allows them to do a lot of things we couldn’t do then. Now give us the technology, and we’ve already got the skills and the flavor. It’s popping, baby!”

Snipes was out of the limelight for years when he served jail time for his tax problems but he came back pretty strong with a role in The Expendables 3 where he showed genre fans that he still had the moves to deliver hyper kinetic action. Since then he’s done a few B action flicks like Armed Response and The Recall but that’s been about it. Snipes does have a role in Amazon’s upcoming Eddie Murphy sequel Coming 2 America hitting the streaming service on March 5th but he’s been pretty quiet on the action front.

It was announced sometime ago that Snipes would star in and produce a new zombie action flick titled Outbreak Z which is set to be helmed by Daredevil stunt pro Chris Brewster but that film remains in the Pre-Production stage at this point in time.

Only time will tell what will happen with these future Wesley Snipes projects but like I said, he’s still got the moves so now’s the time to strike and show the world what he can still do. I’m intrigued to say the least.

You can bet that I’ll be over any and all future announcements so keep it locked and loaded right here for all the updates as we are your destination for everything action and Wesley Snipes!

In the meantime, check out a younger Snipes in action when he was the one and only Blade!
