Much press was made at last month’s Comic Con@Home in regards to the Scott Adkins led Sci-Fi action comedy Max Cloud with the star showing up for a Q&A for the film and releasing a new clip from the film. Adkins has been trying to branch out and do different things and now he us taking a stab at a comedy.

News coming out of FilMart and Variety has the film being acquired by Well Go USA with plans to release in December via On Demand and hopefully a theatrical run if theaters are up and running. The rights for the film are being handled by the U.K. based Fae Film and Television with the acquisition announcement coming from the virtual FilMart in Hong Kong.

Per Variety: The story involves a teenage girl who finds herself trapped in an intergalactic prison home to dangerous villains. To escape the terrifying planet, she must team up with a space hero to battle a wacky and notorious villain and an insidious evil mastermind. The teen needs to finish the game, or remain a 16-bit character forever.

Starring along with Adkins are John Hannah (“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Spartacus”), Lashana Lynch (“Captain Marvel,” “No Time to Die”) and Tommy Flanagan (“Westworld,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”) with Martin Owen (“Twist”) helming from a script by Sally Collett and Martin Owen.

In a statement, Doris Pfardrescher, president and CEO of WellGo USA, said “ ‘Max Cloud’ is a genre-bender in the best possible way, and it’s a treat to see Scott Adkins branch out into a comedic role and nail it,” said Doris Pfardrescher, president and CEO of WellGo USA. “This is a fun, funny and fast-paced film with appeal for fans of genres from comedy and sci-fi to action and martial arts, and it’s a must-watch for anyone nostalgic for the era of classics like ‘Mortal Kombat’ and ‘Street Fighter’.”

It looks as if the title had been shortened from The Intergalactic Adventures of Max Cloud to just simply Max Cloud which I had anticipated which the shorter title will be easier to roll off the tongue. I’m eagerly awaiting this one to see how Adkins fairs in the comedic role but I’m sure he’ll fair just fine as he has been turning heads with his acting in the last few years.

Check out the clip below that debuted last month and keep it locked and loaded right here for more to come with Adkins and Max Cloud!
