The CW star Jensen Ackles is about to go back to work filming the last episodes of the final season of The CW’s long running hit series Supernatural but fear not fans because the actor who has been playing Dean Winchester for well over a decade now already had his next gig lined up after he’s done with the former.

Ackles made the announcement on his Instagram page and it appears that he will play the super hero known as Soldier Boy on season 3 of Amazon Prime’s hit show The Boys. Check out his big reveal below!

In the comic, Soldier Boy is a veteran of the Second World War and became the first super hero and a mainstay of American culture ever since. Ackles joins the cast which includes Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, Karen Fukuhara as The Female, and Tomer Kapon as Frenchie as The Boys as well as the Seven including Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Chace Crawford as The Deep, Antony Starr as Homelander, Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve, Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir, and Jessie T. Usher as A-Train.

On the post, Ackles stated, “I keep wondering what I’ll do….when @cw_supernatural finally ends this year. Then it hit me.” It literally hit him as someone off camera throws a copy of the comic book The Boys which the series is based on and then he smiles as Soldier Boy is played.

Eric Kripke who created Supernatural for The CW also has a hand in The Boys joked about keeping Ackles employed and said: “When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment. I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of ‘Supernatural’ to ‘The Boys.’”

The second season of The Boys doesn’t premiere until September 4th but the streaming service has already greenlit a third season already and is excited for what the show has done for audiences all over the world.
