With production well under way in Japan on Paramount Pictures’ GI JOE spin-off titled Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins, our titular hero Henry Golding took to Instagram to share a first look photo of himself as the iconic Ninja Commando to help celebrate his birthday today. Peek at it below!
Robert Schwentke (RED, R.I.P.D.) helms the film from a script penned by Evan Spiliotopoulous (Bright 2, The Huntsman: Winter’s War). Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner are producing with Jeff Waxman, Erik Howsam, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger serving as executive producers.

Joining Golding in the spin-off film that is serving as a soft reboot are Andrew Koji (Cinemax’s Warrior) as Storm Shadow, Iko Uwais (The Raid, Stuber) as Hard Master, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Scarlett, Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist) as Baroness, Haruka Abe as Akiko, Takehiro Hira as Kenta and Steven Allerick (The Expanse) who will be playing the role of the father of Snake Eyes.
Even though the image is not a clear one, it still is kick ass to see Golding finally as the Joe Ninja Warrior. I love the pic and I’m really looking forward to seeing Golding all decked out in the uniform.
It’ll also be interesting to see how they handle his origin story as fans all know that Snake was a soldier in war and was severely disfigured when he was in a helicopter crash that also left him unable to speak. Let’s hope we get an accurate representation of the character and let’s hope that we see him in the uniform for an extended period of time. Golding is becoming quite popular so hopefully the filmmakers don’t sacrifice the character because they feel that they have to show his face. Only time will tell.
Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins is set to hit theaters this fall on October 23rd!
