Now I know I’ve reported on this in the past but a new video courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter is confirming that Mel Gibson, Danny Glover and Director Richard Donner are indeed returning for one last Lethal Weapon Film! I know…I know but the news comes from a reliable source so here we go again.
The news comes via producer Dan Lin who was part of a round table discussion for The Two Popes where he dropped the awesome news.
Lin stated: “We’re trying to make the last Lethal Weapon movie. And Dick Donner’s coming back,” said Lin. “The original cast is coming back. And it’s just amazing. The story itself is very personal to him. Mel and Danny are ready to go, so it’s about the script.”
News of a new Lethal Weapon have been circulating for years just like a fourth Expendables film but this story has traction so I think I’m officially getting excited. Lin’s comments certainly bodes well for fans like me who have been there since the beginning. I remember seeing the original in theaters on opening weekend all those years ago and have seen all them on the big screen since so I hope Riggs and Murtaugh leap into action one last time!
Only time will tell exactly what will transpire with this and Donner is going to hit 90 years young soon so lets hope that development gets revving up soon. Gibson and Glover are getting up there too but I’m sure they have enough left in the tank for one more action drenched adventure!
