By: John M Jerva

Update: Even though pictures leaked online a few weeks ago that principle photography started on the highly anticipated The Batman, director Matt Reeves made it official with a new post on social media that filming is now underway on the newest incarnation of The Dark Knight which stars Robert Pattinson. Check out Reeves’ post below via Twitter!

Well I didn’t really think that we would ever get to this point but filming has officially begun on Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated The Batman which sees Robert Pattinson take over the cape and cowl from Ben Affleck. The film has literally been in development for what has seemed a decade with delays and rewrites galore but fans can take comfort that it is finally a reality.

The news of the production starting came via co- star Jeffrey Wright who will play Commissioner Gordon in the film. Gary Oldman has previously played the part in the DCEU films thus far. Wright posted the below tweet on Twitter which you can see below!

Principle Photography has started in a London which will serve as Gotham City for the film. We also have our first glimpse of on set photos which was posted as well.

Besides Pattinson and Wright, The Batman boasts an all- star cast which includes Andy Serkis (Black Panther) as Alfred Pennyworth, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle AKA Catwoman, JPaul Dano as the Riddler, John Turturro (The Big Lebowski) as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard (Green Lantern). Colin Farrell will, of course, play the iconic DC villain The Penguin.

The actual plot is being kept under wraps but the film is said to feature Gotham’s Caped Crusader in a very character driven story that will feature a Rogue’s Gallery of villains. It is also said that it will focus on Batman being the world’s greatest detective.

I just like the rest of the world are waiting to see how the movie is and hopefully it will bring a much needed shot of adrenaline to the DC film properties.

The Batman will hit theaters on June 25th, 2021!
