Got some news in my email box today and it appears that Randy Couture, Billy Zane and Danny Trejo are ready to star in a new action-thriller called The Protector which is not to be confused with the 80’s action vehicle starring Jackie Chan. Check out the official press release below!

Billy Zane (Titanic, Tombstone), Randy Couture (The Expendables franchise), Danny Trejo (Heat, Machete) and James Russo (Donnie Brasco, Django Unchained) have come onboard Legion XIII’s indie action film The Protector.

Written and directed by Justin Lee (Badland, Swell), The Protector focuses on Mickey Rome (Ed Morrone), an aging protection specialist who is ready to holster his guns and head for retirement. When the agency he works for demands one last job be done, Mickey obliges and is sent to Central America to watch a husband and wife who have stolen eight million dollars from a ruthless crime family.

“This movie is a fun throwback to films from the 80s like Lethal Weapon, Midnight Run and 48 Hours. It has action. It has comedy. It has dark moments. It was such a joy to get to work in a space I love so much with phenomenal talent! I can’t wait for everyone to see Ed Morrone as Mickey!” Lee says.

The Protector also sees the familiar faces of Doctor Drew Pinsky (Loveline, Wildhogs), Johnny Messner (Tears Of The Sun, Running Scared) and Eddie FInlay (2 Fast 2 Furious, Bad Boys 2). The film is being produced by Daemon Hillin, Justin Lee, and Melanie Young, with Vasily Bernhardt of TB Films executive producing.

The movie sounds promising and I’m always game for some nostalgic throwback 80’s action. We’ve seen the expert who wants to retire plot a lot lately so hopefully this one brings something a little different to the table. It sure does have a great throwback cast so only time will tell.

Keep it locked and loaded right here for more more to come on The Protector!
