Daniel Radcliffe has firmly put his Harry Potter days behind him and the actor has been stepping out of his comfort zone as of late with starring roles in Beast Of Burden and Jungle and now he has what has to quite possibly be the craziest sounding new film coming our way titled Guns Akimbo. That’s right folks… Guns Akimbo.
The film which is helmed by Jason Lei Howden who is best known for Deathgasm. That’s right, Deathgasm. How about that for two insane movie titles in one post? Anyway, this film looks insane and it recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival where it received some pretty awesome reviews.
Radcliffe stars as an ordinary man who is thrust into a very extraordinary situation where he is forced to participate in a gladiator style game of death that spreads across the city in order to save the woman he loves. Now of course, this event is streamed worldwide to audiences who are bloodthirsty enough to view it. To make this even more insane, the people who have forced him to do this have surgically attached two guns on his hands! Now that’s a plot point that sold me into watching it right away.
Official Synopsis: Miles, who spends his days in a dead-end job, pining for his beautiful ex-girlfriend Nova. His mundane existence is turned upside-down when he finds himself enrolled on a dark net website that forces complete strangers to fight in a city-wide game of death so that their gladiatorial battles can be live-streamed worldwide to a fanatical audience.
Contestants are chosen by a clandestine gang known as Skizm, who handicap the weaker contestant to further stack the odds against them. Initially, Miles’ lifetime of running from his problems pays off as he manages to elude his first opponent but when Nova is kidnapped, he must finally stop running and overcome his fears to fight for the girl he loves.
Also starring in this insane helping of violent and brutal fun are Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Miles’ ex Nova, Ned Dennehy as Skizm leader Riktor, and Samara Weaving as Skizm assassin Nix.
Radcliffe recently had the chance to speak with The Wrap and had this to say about the film and having those guns attached to his hands:
“I was immediately intrigued by that. When I got to about page 10 of the script and there was this scene where my character Miles with his new gun attachment hands has to work out and try to go to the bathroom. That was the moment that I was like ‘You’re fully exploring the premise, I’m in!’ … It was both insane and crazy and violent but also incredibly funny and just exciting and really fun to read.”
There is no distribution news to report at this time but I will be on the lookout for any and all details concerning the film. In the meantime, check out Radcliffe talking about the film in the video below!
