(Update: Universal Cancels the Release!) THE HUNT: Twelve Strangers Must Fight to Survive “The Most Dangerous Game” in the Official Trailer!

UPDATE: In response to the recent shootings that occured last week, Universal Pictures has canceled the release of The Hunt and have issued no response to whether the company will release the film in the future.

Official Statement: “While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film. We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film.”

Just last month, I brought the word that a new independent action flick called Tribal: Get Out Alive had started production and the theme of that film was taken from the classic The Most Dangerous Game where humans are hunted for sport. Now we have an official trailer for another film that borrows once again from that iconic story and this one is titled The Hunt. Take a peek at the new poster and footage from the movie where 12 unlucky strangers are about to have one very bad day.

In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, a bunch of elites gathers for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt humans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of the hunted, Crystal (Betty Gilpin, GLOW), knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman (two-time Oscar® winner Hilary Swank) at the center of it all.

This newest version comes coyrtesy of the fine folks over at Blumhouse Productions who are responsible for such horror hits as The Purge and Get Out. Helmed by Craig Zobel with Jason Blum producing, the film stars Ike Barinholtz (Suicide Squad), Betty Gilpin (Glow, Isn’t It Romantic), Emma Roberts (Aquamarine), and Academy Award Winner Hilary Swank.

The Hunt will commence on September 27th when the film hits theaters!
